 Proof of Life

It was a cold monday; she leaned against the window and watched the snow. The snow was falling in flakes and slowly. She could swear it was the most peaceful time of her life. A snowflake drifted onto her palm, but it didn't last long; it melted. She stood up, made some coffee, and sat down again by the window. "Love you," she murmured, "I love you, life..."

She thought for a moment: Did life want her to prove something? "How can I prove it?" she whispered. "How can I prove that I love you? Is the love in my heart enough?" she said to herself. "No, it isn't enough; I must prove it."

She thought for about three hours. And in the end, she decided on this:

"I don’t give people permission to control my life, passion, or self-esteem anymore. I'm forbidding myself from encouraging people who don't deserve it. I no longer give myself—my time, energy, or worth—to those who haven’t earned it
